Party!

The best way I know to ensure you have a clean house is to plan a party.

I kicked this up a notch.  I set our welcome home open house less than 2 weeks after we moved back in.

It forced us to unpack (most of them!) boxes, hang up art, and generally make the place look less like the floor of warehouse 19 and more like a home that actual people actually live in.

And it worked.

All afternoon and into the evening yesterday, friends and family came to celebrate with us, tour the house, and generally hang out.  And it was wonderful.

For the past 3/4 of a year, I've been holding on to the image of my happy house, filled with people, conversation, music, laughter.  And this is a happy house.  Yesterday was a living reminder of that, and also a celebration of the various communities who supported us during our ordeal.

We wouldn't have made it out the other side without all you guys!

Thank you for being there for us.

  1. Congratulations, that's wonderful! Yes, scheduling a party does force the butt-in-gear thing to happen. I've known people who have lived somewhere for years and still have their stuff in boxes - why? (WV: crecits - I'm giving crecits where crecits are due on you getting your house in order so quickly!)
