That Familiar Itch

I've started to get that familiar itch that usual precedes the start of a new story.  After a few weeks off from new writing, it's time to get back to work.

I haven't quite decided, but I'm leaning toward writing a sequel to "The Between," the Faery Changeling story I wrote last year and recently edited.  While "The Between" has an ending, the story arc is actually larger that one story can tell. 

And the ending of "The Between" opened the door to other story questions. 

Now I need to decide whose story to tell and how best to tell it.  "The Between" had only 2 points of view; Lydia and Clive.  They were the characters who had the most at stake in the story and the characters who changed the most throughout the story.

The next part of the tale will probably need to shift to different characters, while also remaining, at least partly, Lydia's story. 

The problem I have is in keeping to the tone and voice of the story as I expand to show different characters.  I have never written a sequel before.  All 6 novels I've written have been stand alones; different types and styles of story. 

Returning to the world of "The Between" will be both easier and harder than starting from scratch.  Easier because I've already established the world and its rules, conflicts, and main characters.  Harder because I have to make the new story feel fresh and compelling while staying true to the core of what's already been written.

So a new challenge.
